Sometimes, it is too difficult to give up on a proposal, if long-term benefits are involved. The same thing goes for Las Vegas Sands Corp and their dream to open up in Florida. This week saw their lobbyist in Florida telling the state lawmakers to go big in their bid of expanding gambling there.
Nick Larossi, who is a lobbyist for the firm, told the House Select Committee for Gaming of Florida that it is their responsibility to offer incentives to the developers of destination resort. Incentives like reduction in tax rates would do well, as it will give casino companies the boost needed for building large-scale resorts there.
From last year onwards, Las Vegas Sands have been vying on building a hotel-casino in Miami Area. However, Florida lawmakers have been scurrying further expansion of gambling in the state.
The gambling expansion has been met with a lot of oppositions from the Conservatives. Again, the Disney Corp and Seminole Indian Tribe (having 7 casinos already operating across Florida) are also opposing the expansion move.
Bill Lerner, who is the MD of the Union Gaming Group, didn’t give any hope to the firm by indicating that there might be no move at all being made for the expansion of Gambling Industry in the State during this year.
Lerner said, “We are not expecting that the state legislature is going to make any near term decision on the situation with gambling expansion. We are looking for a comprehensive study to be done on all forms of gambling, before any further move. And that will take most part of the summer, if not more.”
